Authorities identify drivers in traffic fatality
The Monroe County Sheriff Department has released the names of the individuals involved in a fatal traffic accident near Kendall last Thursday, May 9.
According to investigators, shortly after 1:30 p.m., Monroe County deputies responded to a fatal, two-vehicle accident on Hwy. 71 near County Highway W, just east of Kendall.
When they arrived, they found that a 1991 Dodge Caravan, driven by 30-year-old James Heine of Sauk City, had been traveling eastbound when it crossed the centerline and struck a semi-truck head on that was traveling westbound.
The van spun around before coming to rest in the ditch on the south side of the road. Heine was pronounced dead on the scene. The semi-truck driver, Steven Kast, of Tomah, was not injured.
The incident remains under investigation by the Monroe County Sheriff’s Department, Wisconsin State Patrol and the Monroe County Medical Examiner.
Monroe County Sheriff’s Office was also assisted by the Monroe County Communications Center, Kendall Fire Department, Wilton Ambulance Service, and the Juneau County Sheriff’s Office.
