Sparta firefighters respond to trailer blaze, rollover

The Sparta Area Fire District Department responded to a trailer house fire on Sunday, April 28 shortly before 4:30 p.m.

According to Fire Chief Mike Arnold, when firefighters arrived at 1200 Sugarberry Blvd. lot 66 they discovered a fire on the exterior side of the trailer. The neighbor saw smoke coming from the trailer and called 911.

The trailer was unoccupied and was locked and firefighters had to force their way in to check the extent of the fire. Crews ventilated smoke from the trailer and checked for hot spots.

Firefighters were on the scene for an hour and a half. The Sparta Police Department and Sparta Ambulance Service assisted at the scene. Arnold said the cause of the fire was careless use of smoking material.

Later that evening, firefighters responded to a reported one-vehicle rollover on Igloo Road at 8:27 p.m. The vehicle was on its side and the driver was not injured but was unable to get out of the vehicle.

When firefighter crews arrived sheriff's deputies were stabilizing the vehicle until the fire crew could safely extricate the driver.

They had to remove the windshield to get the driver out. The driver had no reported injuries.
