ALBERTUS F. “BERT” ANDERSON

October 7, 1924—September 12, 2018

   COLES VALLEY - Albertus F. “Bert” Anderson, 93, of Coles Valley, passed away, Wednesday, September 12, 2018 at Morrow Memorial Home, Sparta.

   He was born the first of 11 children on October 7, 1924, in Sparta to John and Leah (Pratt) Anderson.

   After high school, Bert served in the US Navy during WWII. He was stationed on the USS Maui. He was honorably discharged on June 16, 1946.

   Bert married Emma Biegel on June 5, 1948 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Tomah. They farmed, and raised their family in Coles Valley. He was very proud of his children. Bert enjoyed woodworking, gardening, was an avid reader, and a fan of college sports, especially the Wisconsin Badgers.

   Bert was very active and believed in being a community steward. He served on the Sparta School Board, Sparta Co Op Oil, Monroe County Board, Farm Credit Association, Master Farmers Association, and Church Council at Trinity Lutheran Church, Sparta.

   Bert is survived by his children, Beverly (Keith) Schultz of Sparta, Darwin (Roxy) Anderson of Lancaster, WI, Sue (Kent) Johnson of Merrill, WI, Sherry (Steve) Norris of Rochester, MN, Cindy (Nolan) Thesing of Sparta, Scott (Sandy) Anderson of Sparta, and Brian (Ann) Anderson of Tomah; 15 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; his siblings, John (Sharon) Anderson of Tomah, Darlene Wolfe of Wisconsin Rapids, and Sharon (Gary) Bibby of The Villages, FL; and many other relatives and friends.

   Bert was preceded in death by his wife, Emma on June 7, 2013; his parents, John and Leah; two twin great-grandchildren, Chance and Kennedy Homann; and seven siblings.

   A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, September 16, 2018, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Sparta, with Reverend Mark Kvale officiating. Burial will full military honors provided by VFW Post 2112 will be in Mound Prairie Cemetery, Coles Valley.

   Family and friends are invited to call from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Saturday at Lanham-Schanhofer Funeral Home, Sparta, and at the church on Sunday from 1 p.m. until time of services.
