DENNIS LEE KRUESEL
November 8, 1949—August 2, 2018
TOMAH - Dennis Lee Kruesel, 68, of Tomah passed away Thursday, August 2, 2018, at Serenity House, succumbing to congestive heart failure.
Dennis was the youngest of six children born to Paul Otto Kruesel and Adeline Ida (Grothe) Kruesel on November 8, 1949 in Watertown, WI. Dennis attended Watertown High School and later obtained his GED. On April 3, 1967, he married Ellen Sharon Hensler of Watertown in Kansas City, MO. Together they had four children: Shari Ann, Jean Marie, Wendy Sue and Mark Owen.
Dennis was a dedicated father and provider doing whatever was needed to take care of the family. He worked for The Milwaukee Road Railway in Watertown and in 1978 transferred to the Shops in Tomah until its closure. He also moonlighted at Emil’s Pizzeria and Philips 66 Filling Station in Watertown as well as spending any spare time helping his father-in-law on the farm in Neillsville, WI. After his railroad career, Dennis kept busy in many ventures such as managing a liquidation store in Tomah, managing newspaper distribution in the area and doing house painting and remodeling work. Dennis had a woodworking and craft business, partnered in a small engine repair business and he also worked at Wally’s Block in Tomah.
Dennis was a people person with a quick wit and could chat with anyone often coming away with a new friend. He enjoyed “shooting the breeze” with the fellas. He looked forward to deer hunting with his brothers and nephews and loved shore fishing. He liked to go to rummage sales and second-hand shops looking for additions to his multiple collections. Taking in the scenery on long country drives, listening to police scanner calls, playing solitaire, completing fill-it-in word puzzles and reading were also pleasures. In retirement, he took care of his friends by giving rides to the store or appointments and making sure they had food or necessities. Of course, he rarely missed a Packer game on TV.
He is survived by his four children: Shari Kruesel, Jean (William) Lane, Wendy (Richard) Crowe and Mark Kruesel; eight grandchildren: Benjamin (Leeanna) Offutt, Scott Offutt, Shanna Kruesel, Katelyn Crowe, Conner Crowe, Cara Crowe, Tyler Graham and Jennifer Lane; and three great-grandchildren: Kayleigh Offutt, Aubrey Offutt and Carter Crowe. Dennis is also survived by a brother, Richard “Butch” (Judy) Kruesel; and sister, Beverly Manke of Watertown; many nieces and nephews; and his “baby boy,” Waldo Kitty.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Adeline Kruesel; his wife, Ellen Kruesel; brothers, Robert and Donald Kruesel; sister, Elizabeth (Betty Ann) Blasing; and in-law’s, Ruben and Martha Hensler.
A Memorial Service celebrating his life will be Saturday, August 11, 2018, at 1:00 p.m., at Sonnenburg Family Funeral Home, 801 E. Monowau Street, Tomah. Pastor Robert Streeter will officiate. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until time of services at the funeral home followed by a light luncheon.
