DONALD A. NICHOLS

SPARTA - Donald A. Nichols, age 89, of Sparta, Wisconsin, passed away Sunday, May 14, 2017, at The Meadows Assisted Living at Rolling Hills Nursing Home in Sparta, WI.
He was born November 28, 1927, to Arthur and Agnes (Close) Nichols in Antigo, WI. Don graduated from Manitowoc High School. He then served in the United States Army during WWII.
Don was united in marriage to Marion V. Endries, September 10, 1949, at St. Paul’s Church in Manitowoc, WI. He worked as Operations Manager for 39 years at Lauson Chevrolet in Manitowoc, WI. He was a lifetime member of the VFW #1382 and a VFW Honor Guard member. He also was active in the DAV Chapter 27, the American Legion, the 32nd degree Mason’s, and the NRA (Millennium Endowment Member). In his spare time, he was an avid gun collector and target shooter, enjoyed reading, playing cribbage, watching the Packer and Brewer games, and loved his loyal companion, his dog, Bandit.
He is survived by his children, Cynthia (Paul) Solberg of Sparta, WI, Daniel (Sheila) Nichols of Sparta, and Mary (Michael) Nigbur of Rochester, MN; grandchildren, Jeanne (Michael) Hudson, Eric (Becky) Solberg, Cory Nichols, Carissa Nichols, Joseph Nichols, Jacob Nichols, Kayla Nichols, Marcus Nigbur and Scott Nigbur; great-grandchildren, Alexander Hudson, Abigail Hudson, Jake Nichols, Stevi Nichols, Harper Nichols, Allurah Solberg, Brock Solberg, Cason Nichols, Zoe Nichols and Caiden Nichols; a sister, Donna Mae Kickland of Manitowoc, WI; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Agnes; his wife of 56 years, Marion; and his son Stephen Nichols.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, May 17, 2017, 11 a.m., at the Torkelson Page-Smith Funeral Home in Sparta. Relatives and friends were invited for visitation from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services at the Torkelson-Page-Smith Funeral Home in Sparta. Burial followed the services at Mt. Hope Cemetery with military honors.
