April 14, 1943—September 11, 2017

SPARTA - Jerome “Jerry” Paul Swietlik, 74, of rural Sparta, WI, passed away peacefully Monday, September 11, 2017, at his home.

Jerry was born April 14, 1943, in Chicago, IL, to Walter and Jeannette (Zielinski) Swietlik. Jerry was an only child and he grew up in Illinois. He attended and graduated from Lane Technical Preparatory High School in 1961. Following high school he enlisted in the US Army where he was active for two years.

He stayed in IL and made a career of doing tile work on floors, walls and fireplaces. Once he retired he headed North -- to Bristol, WI, and later found land in Cataract, WI, that he loved.

In Wisconsin he also found Darlene Gibson and for the last 15 years they have been partners and had a lot of fun together. One day out of the blue, Jerry said,
“I guess it is time to take up cheese-head residence.” Together they had a lot of fun traveling coast to coast and raising animals.

Jerry was an active member of the Trailblazer Snowmobile Club. Snowmobiling was one hobby that he really loved. Jerry was also a lifetime member of the Badger Steam and Gas Engine Club out of Baraboo, WI. He was always very proud of his Polish heritage and when he was young he adored his “Busia and Dziadziu” (Grandma and Grandpa).

Jerry is survived by two sons, Steven and Jason (Erin) Swietlik; three grandchildren, Savana, Reagan and Liam; a special companion, Darlene Gibson; his children’s mother, Judy Swietlik; an aunt, Therese Rostenkowski; a special cat, Booters; along with a very extraordinary neighbor, Curtis Woodworth, who helped him tremendously over the years; and many wonderful other friends and neighbors.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents.

Jerry’s family would like to thank the Black River Hospice team for all of their kindness and support that they gave during Jerry’s sickness. His family requests that memorials please be given to the Black River Falls Hospice program in Jerry’s name.

A Celebration of Life will be held October 14, 2017, 2:00 p.m. at the Torkelson Page-Smith Funeral Home in Sparta, WI. Family and friends are invited for visitation from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service at the funeral home.
