LEONA F. LAUDEN

CAMP DOUGLAS - Leona F. Lauden, age 95, of Camp Douglas, Wisconsin, passed away Friday, July 5, 2019, at her home.
She was born April 24, 1924 to Paul and Alvina Fenske in rural Camp Douglas, Wisconsin. Leona was raised by her father and older sister after the death of her mother, when she was 4-months-old. She was baptized at St. John’s Lutheran Church and confirmed at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, both in Shennington, Wisconsin. She grew up in rural Camp Douglas and graduated from Camp Douglas High School in 1942.
Leona married Fred Lauden on August 11, 1946, at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, in Shennington, Wisconsin. They lived in Hustler, Wisconsin until 1952 when they moved to a farm in rural Camp Douglas and into the Village of Camp Douglas in 1976. Fred passed away on May 18, 1979. She was a farm wife; working along the side of her husband. She also raised a large vegetable garden and strawberry patch, freezing and canning the produce. Later, she went to work cleaning at K&K Motel; working in the factory at Farnam Sealing Systems in Necedah (1973-1984); and cleaning at the Wisconsin Military Academy (1985-1995). She was a faithful volunteer at the Camp Douglas Nutrition Site from 1995-2012.
Leona was an active member of St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church and had been a member of its women’s organizations.
She is survived by her daughter, Nancy Lauden of Camp Douglas; nieces, Eileen Macrafic of Camp Douglas, Ada Macomber of New Lisbon, Marlene Steinborn of Mankato, Minnesota, Joanne Mullen of Watertown, Wisconsin, and Marlene Pelton of Mauston; nephews, Harlen Madison of Bluffton, South Carolina and Ronald Lauden of New Lisbon.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Fred; three sisters, Alma Madison, Freida Lutz, Edna Mark; and three brothers, Henry, Albert and Herbert Fenske.
A Funeral Service will be held Thursday, July 11, 2019, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church, 215 Douglas Street, Camp Douglas. Pastor Jeff Ruetten will officiate. She will be laid to rest at Camp Douglas Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 4 - 7 p.m. on Wednesday, July 10, 2019 at Sonnenburg Family Funeral Home, 801 E. Monowau Street, Tomah and again Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services at the church.
