MAJOR ROBERT J. ‘BOB’ HERING
May 17, 1933—August 22, 2018
MINNETONKA, MN – Major Robert J. (Bob) Hering, USA, Ret., age 85, died peacefully August 22, 2018 at his home of 51 years in Minnetonka, MN after a long battle with several on-going illnesses due to exposure to Agent Orange.
He was born May 17, 1933 in Sparta, WI where he grew up. He was the only child of John P. and Freeda E. Hering (nee Winterfield). He graduated from Sparta High School in 1951 and Ripon College, WI in 1955. In 1956, Bob began his 20 years of service in the Armed Forces (Finance and Personal). He served two tours in Vietnam. From 1959-1964 he was stationed in Bad Kreuznach, Germany. He met Helena Nowak there and they married on October 11, 1961. Helena would become his devoted wife of 56 years.
Bob’s greatest passion was singing with many choirs. Bob and Helena loved dancing and were great opera devotees and traveled worldwide.
Bob is survived by his widow, Helena; sons, Marcus and Alex (Jill); granddaughters, Nicole and Amber; and one great-granddaughter, Melody.
He will be inurned in Sparta, WI at a later date.

A celebration of his life was on September 15, from 2:00-4:00 p.m. at St. David’s Episcopal Church, 13000 St. David’s Road, Minnetonka, MN.
