RONALD “OTTO” STEVEN SOLBERG
February 15, 1948—November 3, 2017
SPARTA - Ronald “Otto” Steven Solberg, age 69, of Sparta, WI, passed away peacefully Friday, November 3, 2017, at his home surrounded by his family.
Ron was born February 15, 1948, to Otto and Martha (Becker) Solberg in LaCrosse, Wisconsin. He grew up in Fish Creek, and graduated from Bangor High School in 1966.
Ron was proud of his service in the U.S. Navy from 1966 to 1970, working on the USS George Bancroft nuclear submarine. After his time in the service, he attended WWTC for heating and air conditioning and briefly worked for Reisinger before starting at Fort McCoy in the maintenance department. Following his retirement in 2002, he enjoyed spending time outdoors in his extensive garden, along with fishing and hunting. One of his greatest joys in life were his children and grandchildren. He cherished the time he got to spend with them, and he will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
He is survived by his daughters, Melissa (Mike) Haas of West Salem, WI and Rhonda (Matthew) Schmidt of Englewood, Colorado; grandchildren, Avery and Harper Haas; his brother, Clint (Carol) Solberg of Sherwood, WI; former wife and mother of his daughters, Joan Solberg; and former wife, Carrie Solberg. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, and many lifelong friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Otto and Martha; and stepfather, Orvis Henry.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, November 8, 2017, 11:00 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Sparta, Wisconsin. Pastor Mark Kvale will officiate. Burial will be held at Fish Creek Cemetery.
Family and friends are invited for visitation Tuesday, November 7, 2017, from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Torkelson Page Smith Funeral Home. Visitation will also be held on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at the church.
A Celebration of Ron’s life will be held at Augie’s Bar & Grill beginning at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
