July 30, 1929—January 31, 2019

   SPARTA - Wilda W. Nichols (Erickson) Vieth, 89, of Sparta, WI, passed away Thursday, January 31, 2019, at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center, La Crosse, WI.

   Wilda was born to Irma Nichols, July 30, 1929; two weeks later, Irma passed away from leukemia. Wilda was named after two nurses, Wilda and Winifred, who took care of Irma and baby Wilda in the hospital. Irma’s parents, Roy and Elizabeth Nichols raised and adopted Wilda. When Wilda was 16-years-old, she fell in love with Wallace Erickson and they were married. Wallace passed away in 1962 and in 1970 she married Francis Vieth, who passed away in 1999.

   Wilda was an amazing cook and hard worker. She was known for making the best baked beans, potato salad, biscuits, white sour cream cookies and her famous pumpkin pie. After she resided at Rolling Hills, Wilda loved going to play bingo, play cards, and color whenever possible. She was an active member of the VFW 2112 in Sparta. Wilda cherished time spent with her family. She was adored by all who knew her.

   Wilda is survived by her children, Betty (Gary) Peterson of Sparta, Blanche Helgesen of Sparta, Gary (Linda) Erickson of Otis, CO, Larry (Diane) Erickson of Sparta, Debra (Dennis) Arnold of Sparta, Sherry (Steve) Marx of Sparta, and Russ (Tam) Foldy of Cadott, WI; along with many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.

   Wilda was preceded in death by her mother; her grandparents; and husbands, Wallace Erickson and Francis Vieth.

   Funeral Services will be held Saturday, February 9, 2019, 11:00 a.m. at the Torkelson Page-Smith Funeral Home, Sparta, WI. Burial will follow in the Leon Cemetery. Family and friends are invited for visitation Saturday, 9:00 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home.
