It’s nearly midway through the season for most high school football teams, which means each and every game is becoming increasingly important for area grid squads.
Friday’s slate of games in the Scenic Bluffs conference is no different, especially for Cashton and Brookwood.
The Eagles are coming off a big home win over Royall Friday and Brookwood is still searching for its first conference victory after falling 30-7 to undefeated Hillsboro.
Cashton faces a big road test, hosting undefeated Bangor in a Scenic Bluffs battle, while Brookwood travels to Royall for another conference contest.
In the Mississippi Valley Conference, Tomah looks to get back on the winning track with a home game against La Crosse Logan after falling 34-14 at Holmen last week.
Bangor at Cashton
The Eagles earned their first conference win last week, rolling over Royall 26-6.
Jaden Schmitz and Noah Flock led Cashton with a pair of touchdowns apiece against the Panthers.
Schmitz hit paydirt runs of 11 and 32 yards, while Flock scored on runs of three and four yards.
The Eagles finished with 303 total yards against Royall, including 282 on the ground.
Cashton was solid on defense as well, holding the Panthers to juts 106 total yards on offense.
Bangor enters Friday’s Scenic Bluffs match-up with a perfect 4-0 record after a 38-0 nonconference thumping of Highland Saturday afternoon.
The Cardinals, who are 1-0 in Scenic Bluffs play, have recorded three straight shutout victories since opening their 2015 season with a 42-13 nonconference win over Melrose-Mindoro.
Brookwood at Royall
The Falcons remain winless in Scenic Bluffs action, but had the dubious task of opening their league slate with back-to-back games against a pair undefeated powerhouses - Bangor and Hillsboro.
Brookwood is looking for its first Scenic Bluffs win since opening with convincing back-to-back nonconference wins over DeSoto and Riverdale.
Falcon running back Cory Ottum is coming off solid performance on the ground against the Tigers, rushing for 95 yards on 19 carries last week.
Royall enters Friday’s Scenic Bluffs game with an 0-2 league record and a 1-3 overall mark.
The Panthers only victory was a 38-22 nonconference win over Alma Center Lincoln Aug. 28.
Logan at Tomah
Despite a strong start last week, the Timberwolves came up on the short end in an early-season battle of Mississippi Valley Conference unbeatens.
Tomah opened the MVC road game with a pair of first quarter touchdowns to forge an early lead, but gave up four big plays in a 34-14 loss to the Vikings.
Ben Venner scored on an eight-yard run and quarterback Jack Haye tossed his ninth touchdown pass of the season - a 21-yard scoring strike to Kyle Kroener – to help the Timberwolves forge a 14-0 lead in the opening 15 minutes of play.
Holmen answered with a vengeance, however, scoring on runs of 64 and 26 yards and interception returns of 75 and 40 yards.
Tomah, which opened play in the MVC with a 20-17 victory over West Salem, comes into Friday’s conference game with a 1-1 league record and a 2-2 overall mark.
Logan, which defeated Sparta in the MVC opener, moved to 2-0 in conference play with a 42-6 victory over La Crosse Aquinas last week.
