Falcon duo solid at Division 3 state track and field meet
Junior Allyson Nelson and senior Blake Martin captured medals to lead the Brookwood thinclads at the 2017 Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association Division 3 Track and Field State Championships over the weekend.
Nelson led the way for the Lady Falcons with a fourth-place finish in the discus.
Nelson entered the finals seeded fifth after a toss of 120’-10” in the preliminary round, but saved her best for the finals with a throw of 124’-10” to move up the ladder and finish fourth in the field of 16 competitors at state.
In addition, Nelson added a 10th-place finish in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:02.87 and an 11th in the 800-meter run in 2:25.02.
Nelson advanced to Saturday’s 400-meter finals with a 10th-place finish in 1:01.11 in Friday’s preliminary round. There were no prelims in the 800-meter run.
Martin was stellar as well, earning a sixth-place finish in the 200-meter dash.
Martin opened his state appearance by finishing fifth in 23.22 seconds in Friday’s preliminary round, before earning sixth place with a time of 23.16 seconds in Saturday’s final.
Brookwood senior Sawyer Ellsworth advanced to state for the Falcons as well, but failed to make the finals after finishing 14th in the preliminary round of the 110-meter hurdles on Friday.
