Sparta Rod and Gun Club hosts Rinehart R100 this weekend
It’s the premier archery shoot of its kind – and it’s headed for Sparta this weekend.
The Rinehart R100 - dubbed The Greatest Archery Shoot In The World – will return to the Sparta Rod and Gun Club Saturday and Sunday, July 29 and 30.
The shoot is entering its 12th year in Sparta after a brief stint in Holmen.
The opportunity presented itself,” said Rinehart R100 Coordinator Chris Goodman.
“One of our members was at the shoot in Holmen and heard they were looking for a new location,” he continued. “We felt our club met all of the criteria to hold a good shoot.”
The rest, as they say, is history.
“We are the largest Rinehart shoot in the country, and have been for the past eight or nine years,” Goodman offered.
“We have tried very hard - and have been successful - at making this a very family-oriented shoot,” he continued. “Basically, we’ve tried to make improvements every year, and we have. We’re constantly adding things that we feel will make it better that every.”
According to Goodman, the Sparta event is so popular that Rinehart officials use it in the brochures they develop for similar shoots across the country.
The two-day shoot features 100 of the world’s most amazing archery targets ever created.
The event includes special event novelty shoots and vendors will be on hand both days.
Of the 16 or so Rinehart archery shoots held in the United States each year, Sparta’s draws the largest crowd.
“Last year, we had 850 shooters, which is an all-time Rinehart record,” offered Goodman. “We pull shooters from anywhere from nine to 11 states and Canada each year.”
The cost to participate in this year’s Rinehart R100 shooting at 50 targets is $40 for adults, $20 for youth ages 11 to 16 and $10 for cubs (kids age 10 and under with a paid adult).
The cost for 100 targets is $60 for adults, $25 for youth ages 11 to 16 and $10 for cubs.
Both youth and cub participants can shoot at the Rod and Gun Club’s Youth Zone for free.
