Spartan thinclads earn top-20 finishes at state
A pair of Sparta thinclads turned in solid performances over the weekend in the Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association Division 1 Track and Field State Championships at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse.
Senior Sirrus Bier and sophomore Angie Talsky both came home with top-20 finishes in their first state track meet appearances.
Bier placed 15th in the 24-man field in the high jump at state Friday evening.
The University of Dubuque track recruit jumped 6’ and 6’-2” to open his day at state, but failed to clear the bar at 6’-4” and missed a trip to the finals.
Talsky had a personal-best mark of 17’-2” in the triple jump to capture 17th place at state Saturday morning.
Talsky opened with a jump of 16’-1 ½” and increased to 17’- ¼” in her second jump, before flying 17’-2” in her final jump.
She fell just under 10 inches shy of advancing to the Division 1 triple jump finals.
